UF, UF, UF. PNR, HR, Sci-Fi, finding a bit more YA that I enjoy. Mystery, crime, detective shit. Have recently figured out I'm not really a contemporary romance gal. I like smut but am not really into erotica. Oh, did I mention UF?
This was tons of fun to read. I had problems with all of the obvious Labyrinth movie references, some of it was a bit hard to take, but in the end I think Julie Kagawa has created a really interesting world and I'll sign on for the next book.
I read in other reviews a disdain for the female lead. I disagree, I think she acted, for the most part, like a realistic 16-year old girl thrown into a completely new world. I didn't find her TSTL, I admired her pluck and thought she was pretty honorable.
There were some super silly bits that read, to me, extremely YA, maybe even tween, but not so many to ruin my enjoyment of the story.
It was like reading Labyrinth fanfic and that does still bother me. I should maybe knock off another star but I was able to set that bother aside most of the time. I'm in for Book 2 and hope that the story gets even more interesting and the characters continue to grow.
